The Lisboan International School opened in 2025 in a beautifully restored 1908 pasta factory in Alcântara, western Lisbon. The campus is one of the most striking of any international school in the city — a large, purpose-built space with generous, well-designed learning environments that feel modern and open from the start.

The school follows the Cambridge curriculum through to the IB Diploma at senior level. Class sizes are medium — a reasonable ratio that allows for individual attention without the exclusivity pricing of the smallest schools.

As with any school in its first years, some things will still be settling into place — processes, routines, extracurricular programming. That is natural and expected. What matters is the quality of the people running it: the leadership team brings experience from established international schools, which gives a solid foundation. Worth keeping in mind as you evaluate, but not a reason to dismiss — many of Lisbon's best schools went through the same early phase.

Frequently asked questions
Is The Lisboan a new school?
Yes — The Lisboan opened in 2025. The campus is brand-new and purpose-built inside a beautifully restored historic building in Alcântara. As with any new school, some routines and processes are still being established, but the leadership team brings experience from other established international schools.
What curriculum does The Lisboan follow?
The school follows the Cambridge curriculum through the junior and middle years, leading to the IB Diploma at senior level. This is a well-regarded combination — Cambridge builds strong academic foundations and the IB Diploma is widely recognised by universities worldwide.
Where is The Lisboan located?
The school is in Alcântara, in western Lisbon — a well-connected neighbourhood easily accessible from central Lisbon, Belém, and the Cascais line. International schools within the city of Lisbon itself are relatively few, which makes The Lisboan a convenient option for families who prefer not to commute out to Sintra, Cascais, or Oeiras.
How much does The Lisboan cost per year?
Annual tuition ranges from €12,200 (Kindergarten) to €22,600 (Grades 12–13). There is a one-time enrollment fee of €3,000, an annual re-enrollment fee of €1,000, and optional lunch at approximately €1,620/yr. Always verify current fees directly with the school.
How big are the classes at The Lisboan?
Class sizes are medium — a reasonable ratio that allows teachers to give individual attention while keeping the school accessible at its current fee level.
