Oeiras International School is one of Portugal's most academically outstanding international schools — and one of its most unusual. It is entirely non-profit, governed and run by a charitable foundation of parents, with every euro reinvested back into the school. There are no shareholders, no commercial operators. The community owns it.
The school offers the full IB continuum — PYP, MYP and Diploma — making it one of only three international schools in Portugal to do so. Class sizes are deliberately small: the maximum is 18 students, with an average of 16. That ratio is rare in the Lisbon area.
The school operates across three campuses, all close to one another in Oeiras. The historic main campus sits within a quinta — a traditional Portuguese estate — with a river running through the grounds and a forest alongside. It is genuinely beautiful. A brand-new senior campus is opening in September 2026. Sport, music, and a wide range of activities are woven into the programme, with football, swimming, and basketball included in the regular schedule alongside a skate park and large playground on campus.
